State Historical Museum held a scientific conference entitled «Portraiture in Russia in the 18th - first half of 19th century. Drawings, paintings, miniatures» on February 2-3, 2011.
This conference is included in a set of activities accompanying the work of two exhibitions organized by State Historical Museum: «Russian historical portraiture.
Engraving in the 18th century» (exhibiting term from November 17 to January 23) and «Portrait miniatures. Private collection of Russian miniatures in the late 17th-19th centuries» (from December 3 to February 28).
The following topics were discussed at the conference:
1. The relationship of the original and its reproduction
2. The influence of West European canons on the formation and development of the Russian portraiture
3. Matters of attribution
4. The problem of cataloguing collections: traditional and modern information technologies.
